Not a very pleasnat time for the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, at least at this moment. Just last week, one of the sitting governors made a ridicule of a widow who had initially pleaded for mercy for violating one of the State Government's policies on welfare and discipline. Though the Governor had settled "out of court" with the affected widow after the incident.
But this week, it is the turn of a senator from same APC party who is keen to sponsoring a bill, at the national assembly, which would obviously make criticism of malicius activities of Nigerian Government a crime on social media platforms.
The senator is said to be so adamant of presenting the bill for reading and appropriate passage into an act.
In his view, criticising the nation's government at any level via social media is seen as a sabotage and crime, and in effect should be met by a punishment of 7years jail term for any SM critic.
However, let's assume the bill finally passes into an act by the senate thus denying many young Nigerians the right to speak-up against bad governance - would the act be justified as appropriate in the end? Do you think the act is needed to protect the nation's image from negative media perception of the foreign world?
